The Ethics of Being Young
It’s never been easier or harder to be a young person. While the standard of living for most people under 30 is far better today than it was 50 or 100 years ago, young people are entering a world that is divided, unstable and with a radically changing climate.
The Ethics Centre presents a special edition of their popular ‘The Ethics of…” series to coincide with Sydney Theatre Company’s season of Dear Evan Hansen. Philosopher Dr Tim Dean will be joined by two special guests, including actor and playwright Emmanuelle Mattana (Trophy Boys, STC Watershed writer) and young thinker Phaedra Carantinos to explore what it means to be a young person today.
Who are young people expected to be? Can they have positive impact on the world they’re set to inherit, when facing their own growing crises in conflict, climate, mental health, misuse of technology, sexism, racism, and a morally charged society quick to punish those who misspeak?
“The Ethics of…” series unpacks the experiences, hopes and challenges that make us truly human; from the good to the bad and everything in between.
The Ethics of Being Young will commence at 6pm to accommodate guests booked to see Dear Evan Hansen at 7.30pm.
