Nuno felting is a fabric felting technique developed in the early 90’s. The name is derived from the Japanese word “nuno” meaning cloth. The technique bonds loose wool fibres into sheer fabric such as silk gauze creating a lightweight felt which is incredibly textured and drapes beautifully.
In this workshop Gill will take you through the fundamentals of nuno felting, including: which fabrics are suitable for this process, the tools of the trade, and the little tips and tricks needed to ensure a successful outcome.
Gill will show you a variety of nuno felted pieces, talk about the different styles of nuno felting and introduce you to the amazing alchemical process that is felt making. Once you have decided on your colour choice, Gill will take you step by step through the process of making your own unique ‘personal statement’ scarf to wow your friends.
Felt making is a very forgiving medium. You don’t have to be ‘creative’ to get something out of this course. You just have to love colour and texture, working with your hands, and be able to let go of the outcome, and just play.
