Bowled over by flavour

It’s a gorgeous afternoon when North Shore Living visits Warringah Bowls in Mosman.

It’s easy to see how this relaxed spot has been a favourite of locals for over 100 years, as we take a seat in the sunshine out on the warm and welcoming terrace.

The team starts us off with an XPA, a watermelon sour beer, and a cider, and there is truly nothing quite like sitting outside in the breeze on a warm day with a nice cold beverage in hand.

Choosing from the extensive menu seems a little overwhelming, so when our chef suggests a few dishes, we are very receptive.

We enjoy the ambiance and the drinks, and it’s not long before our first dish comes out: garlic prawns. The prawns are very fresh and not overpowered by the sauce, which can happen with this particular dish.

Next up is butter chicken, a dish that you would perhaps be surprised to find on a bowling club’s menu. Any scepticism we held was instantly swept aside, however, after we dig in. The spices compliment the chicken permanently and the heat is very manageable.

It’s all been great so far, and there’s still more to come.

We’re sitting outside. A cool breeze offsets the warmth of the day, as we look over the bowling green and come to the realisation that a bit of lawn bowls would be the perfect complement to a day at the club.

Now, the fish tacos. Another item on the menu that you won’t find in your average tavern – again they are delicious. Hot, fresh and tasty, the tacos go down a treat as we sample more of the drinks on offer at Warringah Bowls.

Then it’s time for some pizza. We order a traditional pepperoni and ‘The Mosman’ - a concoction named after the harbourside North Shore suburb that features ham, pepperoni, pineapple, and mushrooms.

Both pizzas are fantastic - especially ‘The Mosman’. There’s just the right amount of ingredients, and the thin crust is scrumptious.

If you’re looking for a great spot to enjoy a few beers and a fantastic meal on the lower North Shore, look no further than Warringah Bowls, where the team will certainly take great care of you.
