Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes has urged Northern Beaches Council not to proceed with the proposed closure of a public road reserve in Avalon Beach.

As reported by Peninsula Living last month, Council is considering closing the public reserve between 32 – 34 Watkins Road, Avalon.

Closing the reserve would see the land become Crown Land, which could then be sold off to the adjoining owner at number 32.

The resident is interested in subdividing the land and constructing a second dwelling behind their existing home.

More than close to 200 locals have lodged a submission with the Council about the proposal to close the land, including local MP Rob Stokes.

In his submission, Mr Stokes says Council and the State Government should see the overgrown land as an opportunity to reintegrate it into local streets and parks network.

He says the NSW Government does not need the proceeds from the land sale.

Meanwhile, the owner of number 32 has maintained the land is steep, extremely overgrown, and not used by locals.

Submission on the proposed reserve closure closed in early March.
