Launch of Demerge NSW Alliance (DNA)
The Demerge NSW Alliance is a new coalition of residents that has formed in response to the amalgamation of New South Wales councils in 2016.
The new alliance, which involves residents of the former Pittwater, claims that amalgamated councils are failing to deliver financially and that services have declined, and rates are rising.
Grantley Ingram, DNA coordinator, says in 2020, 60 percent of the merged councils were in deficit and the NSW Government’s promised $2 billion in savings has not occurred.
“After five years of merged councils, communities remain angry about the remoteness of the mega councils, the rate increases, the failure to deliver financially and lack of representation. They want their local councils back,” Mr Ingram says.
