Night out for our nearest neighbours

COVID-19 has changed the world as we know it. It has especially challenged already fragile health systems and changed how we are able to help our neighbours in need.
That’s why last year, local Northern Beaches charities Australian Doctors International (ADI) and Waves For Water Australia (W4W), joined forces to support at-risk communities and frontline health workers in our closest neighbouring country, Papua New Guinea. The two organisations share a focus of improving the health security of those in need, and value collaboration in achieving this goal.
Stable health services, good hygiene practice and clean water are universal human rights. The organisations distributed portable water filters to patrol teams, providing clean drinking water for remote communities and health clinics – many of which operate without clean running water.
To be able to continue this in 2021, ADI and W4W will be hosting a joint fundraising event at the iconic Q Station in Manly on Saturday, 27 February, from 5.30-8.30pm.
The evening sunset session will be a celebration of the organisations’ work to date, with introductory speeches from W4W country director, Melanie Koeman, and ADI founder, Dr Peter Macdonald.
Guests will also hear from health workers who have been on the frontline in remote PNG, as well as enjoy live music, a DJ, canapes and drinks, a raffle and live auction.
The highlight of the evening will be the auction, with an impressive list of prizes including weekend getaways, stunning art works, dining vouchers, surf lessons and gear, a signed 2020 Sea Eagles jersey, and more, all valued at more than $12,000.
The organisations are hoping to raise in excess of $50,000, and the $75 tickets can be purchased at w4w.grassrootz.com/adi-w4w-manly-fundraiser.
