Volunteering across Pittwater
Be a beacon of local history
One of Sydney’s most iconic lighthouses needs volunteer guides to offer tours and perform upkeep. The Barrenjoey Lighthouse attracts thousands of people each weekend and is in desperate need of locals willing to help keep the heritage-listed light station open to the public. Volunteers are required Sundays to prepare the lighthouse for visitors and conduct half-hourly tours up the top of the watchtower, providing stories about the light and its history. For more information, contact Roger Treagus at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Visit an isolated local
HammondCare Australia is looking for locals to visit elderly or frail members of the Warriewood community. As part of the HammondCare At Home program, volunteers will visit older people in their homes to have a chat, reminisce and/or talk about topics of interest. You may spend some time out in the garden, go for a walk, listen to music or do some arts and crafts activities. Volunteers are needed for one hour a week, Monday to Friday. You will be carefully matched with the right person by HammondCare, and the organisation will provide training as well as ongoing support throughout. When submitting your interest, please include details about why you want to volunteer. Visit the SEEK website for more details and to apply.
Raise up a young local
Avalon, Mona Vale and Narrabeen
Charity Raise Foundation is looking for volunteers to mentor students and young mothers on the Northern Beaches. For one to two hours a week during school hours, volunteers will offer their services to young people in our community, ensuring they feel heard, valued and supported. You will receive quality training and be supported throughout the program by an expert Program Counsellor. Raise believes a neutral positive role model is the biggest predictor of youth wellbeing and can make a significant difference in the life of a young person. To learn more about Raise’s programs and to register your interest, visit raise.org.au/volunteer.
Help find pooches a new home
Do you have time to spare these university/school holidays? Monika’s DoggieRescue needs customer service volunteers to help ensure rescued pups find their perfect home. Volunteers will welcome visitors, answer phones, hang out the washing, sell goods in the shop and clean and tidy. You must have an outgoing personality and a pleasant manner when dealing with people, as well as know how to work quickly under pressure. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least one, four-hour shift every two weeks. To apply, head to the SEEK website.
